New York Theological Seminary Launches New Nigerian DMin Cohort with Dr. Amos Kunat

New York, NY (June 16, 2021) – New York Theological Seminary is excited to announce the creation of a new Doctor of Ministry Program in the country of Nigeria.  Coordinated by Dr. Amos Kunat, Pastor of the New Estate Baptist Church in Lagos, Nigeria, this three-year, hybrid-style program will focus on exploring issues and challenges relevant to the development and practice of ministry in the Nigerian Context.  The program will be taught by both United States and Nigerian Scholars.

Launching in the fall of 2021, the new program will meet on a monthly basis in a virtual setting given the reality of the ongoing covid-19 crisis in Nigeria.  We hope, however, in year two to move to an intensive in-person format.  The second half of year two and year three will focus on project development and dissertation completion.

In year one, students will be engaged in three courses on a monthly basis with seminar sessions and assigned reading and writing assignments.  The courses Critical Interpretation, Mentor and Leadership Development, Research and Proposal Development.

“We are so excited to welcome Dr. Kunat to the NYTS family in this capacity. His visionary leadership provides a strong foundation to build the Doctor of Ministry cohort in Nigeria,” said Rev. Dr. LaKeesha Walrond, President of NYTS.

“Under the leadership of our NYTS President the Rev. Dr. Lakeesha Walrond, our NYTS Mission Statement is preparing faith and thought leaders to engage relevant, restorative, and revolutionary ministry. Therefore, it is fitting that this fall NYTS will be launching a Doctor of Ministry Cohort in Nigeria, the largest country in Africa. We are excited to announce that our Nigerian DMIN Program Coordinator is NYTS 2021 DMIN Graduate Dr. Amos Kunat, Pastor of New Estate Baptist Church in Lagos, Nigeria. Dr. Kunat is the Presiding Chair of The Nigerian Baptist Convention comprised of over thirteen thousand churches and over eight million members. On May 27, 2021, Dr. Kunat was installed as the new Chancellor of Bowen University Iwo in Nigeria. To quote President Walrond, THE BEST IS YET TO COME,” said Rev. Dr. C. Vernon Mason, NYTS’s Doctor of Ministry Program Director.
